Blood Tests & Samples

From time to time, the doctor may ask you to make an appointment for blood tests, or to bring a sample to the Surgery for testing. Please note the following:

  • If you are asked to have a fasting blood test, you should have nothing to eat or drink from midnight the night before
  • Sterile sample containers are available from Reception, and these should be clearly labelled with your name and date of birth
  • Our samples are collected daily by the Lab van. You must hand in all specimens BEFORE 2.00PM. This will ensure that your sample reaches the Lab as fresh as possible and the results are as accurate as possible
  • Most results will be back and reviewed by the GP in approximately 7 days. A few test results take longer than this
  • Test results are given out Monday to Friday AFTER 11.00AM. You should wait the minimum of 7 days after your test has been taken before contacting the Surgery for results

To maintain patient confidentiality we require your written authorisation (forms available from reception) should you require to have any of your test results disclosed to anyone other than yourself.

If you have undergone tests or x-rays ordered by the practice, you will be responsible for contacting the surgery to enquire about the result.
